From classroom to cosmos: Students take on space sustainability for Viasat Beyond: Space competition
Thousands applied, five presented, and only one took home the prize for their winning concept
Viasat and Azercosmos, Azerbaijan’s satellite operator, are cooperating to provide connectivity in Azerbaijan and to its partners later this year. The collaboration aims to expand satellite-enabled services to support energy, utilities, and transport industries in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and Central and South Asia.

Ash Goldsmith, a 16-year-old from the Wirral, was selected by a panel of industry experts at the Viasat Beyond: Space competition this week in London. He is one of three winners who will receive funding, after the final five pitched their space ideas to the judges, including the UK Space Agency’s Head of Space Sustainability Ray Fielding and ‘Galactic Gal’ Camille Bergin.
